DPS experts Carsten Lange and Christopher Gudat have been selected to participate in the European Central Bank’s (ECB) workstream “Implementation Specifications for ATMs and Payment Terminals” (G5), which forms part of the Digital Euro programme. In this role, they will contribute their expertise in payments, terminal management and self-service technologies.
Workstream G5 supports the Rulebook Development Group (RDG) in the development of the Digital Euro scheme rulebook. Its objective is to review and develop implementation specifications for ATMs and payment terminals and to build on existing standards for the future use of the digital form of the euro.
The workstream focuses on topics such as the integration of the Digital Euro into existing ATM and terminal infrastructures, different communication technologies, offline functionality and the reuse of established standards. Its deliverables will contribute to the technical scheme requirements and implementation specifications of the future Digital Euro scheme rulebook.
Expertise in payments and self-service technologies
For DPS, the participation of both experts reflects the company’s long-standing experience in payments and self-service infrastructures. With its eCMS Suite, DPS provides an established platform for the management of ATMs, self-service terminals and other customer-facing devices. Experience gained from numerous projects in payments, terminal management and self-service infrastructures provides a strong foundation for contributing to the European expert group.
“The Digital Euro will not be shaped by regulatory requirements alone. A key challenge will be how new requirements can be integrated into existing infrastructures and how solutions will work in everyday use for banks, merchants and consumers,” says Carsten Lange, Partner at DPS.
Christopher Gudat, Project Manager at DPS, adds: “What interests me most is how existing terminal and acceptance infrastructures can evolve to support new digital means of payment in an efficient and user-friendly way. This is where important decisions for the future of European payments will be made in the years ahead.”
Participation is based on a Europe-wide call for experts issued by the ECB for the various workstreams of the Digital Euro programme. Carsten Lange and Christopher Gudat were selected through this process to contribute to Workstream G5. DPS would like to thank the German Savings Banks Association (DSGV) and the European Savings and Retail Banking Group (ESBG) for their support during the selection process.
